ABOUT

Rachel Avenido (she/her/they/them) is a mixed race Filipino American artist and graphic designer based in their hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. Rachel holds a Bachelor's in Political Science and Spanish and Latino/Latin American Studies from the College of Saint Benedict, and an Associate's in Graphic Design - Print Media from Minneapolis College. 

Rachel worked as a bilingual Educational Assistant with young families in Saint Paul ECFE (2009-2016) before returning to school to study design and print media. This experience with learning through play informs how Rachel encourages art practice in others. Process not product!

Rachel worked as a screen printer and graphic designer with Shameless Inc. from 2014 to 2020. While at Shameless Rachel often worked at community events screen printing live and engaging with the public to educate about the art form. They continues to work as a contractor with Print At My Event live screen printing at events around the Twin Cities, most recently at AdFed 2024 and with Target fall kickoff event at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Rachel worked at Blick Art Materials both as an Associate (since 2021) and as an Associate Manager from June 2022 to September 2024. She enjoyed empowering both new artists and seasoned pros to expand their art practice and valued the opportunity to serve as a supportive leader in her role as one of the managers.

Rachel currently works with kindergarteners as an Education Assistant at Justice Alan Page Elementary.

Rachel enjoys sketching and painting while out in nature, roller skating with friends, and relaxing with their cat Maple among their many houseplants in macrame plant holders.
